On April 19-23, Garrett Motion will participate at 2024 World Congress on Internal Combustion Engines, in Tianjin – China, presenting the company’s recent study on Turbocharger development for Dedicated Hybrid Engine.
New Energy Vehicles (NEV) are becoming more and more popular in the China market. In 2022, the share of Electric Vehicle (EV) in the light-duty vehicle segment rose to 22.5%. In the same period, Plug-in Full Hybrid Vehicle including Range Extender Vehicles (PHEV&REV) stood at 6.4% but with an annual growth rate of 150%. OEMs are developing high efficiency Powertrains made from a combination of Dedicated Hybrid Engine (DHE) and Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). The aim of such Powertrains is to maximize the Brake Thermal Efficiency (BTE) of the engine and minimize the losses of the transmission.
DHE operation range is different from conventional ICE operation, which allows for increased flexibility with respect to turbocharger design parameters such as speed margins, inertia, etc. Garrett maximizes this opportunity to further improve turbocharger efficiency, which in turn enables greater engine BTE.
Presentation Date: 22/04/2024
Venue: Tianjin Auditorium, No. 24 Youyi Road, Hexi District, Tianjin, China
