At Garrett, we understand that Greenhouse Gas emissions reduction is paramount for the transportation industry in the US. However, while US regulators have been focusing on vehicle tailpipe emissions, also known as tank-to-wheel (TTW) emissions, the real impact on global warming and climate change for our planet truly depends on the vehicle’s total emissions over its life cycle, from vehicle manufacturing and use to recycling and disposal.
This study considers four types of propulsion systems: Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), Internal Combustion Engine Vehicle (ICEV), Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV), and Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine Vehicle (H2 ICEV); using the holistic Life Cycle Assessment method for five vehicle groups: Class 8 long haul truck, Class 7 regional delivery truck, Class 4 pickup truck, passenger pickup truck, and large SUV.
