Garrett Motion Champions Student Innovation in Formula Student 2025

In 2025, Garrett Motion reaffirmed its commitment to engineering excellence and sustainable mobility by sponsoring four Formula Student teams and two major racing events: Formula SAE in the United States and Formula Student Czech Republic (FS Czech) in Europe. As part of its sponsorship, Garrett proudly presented a special Innovation Award at each event, celebrating breakthrough ideas and technical ingenuity from student teams around the world.

Formula SAE 2025: Electrifying Performance in Michigan

Held from June 17-21 at the Michigan International Speedway, Formula SAE 2025 focused exclusively on the Electric Vehicle (EV) class, with 100 teams competing in design, business, cost analysis, and dynamic track events.
Garrett, a title sponsor of the University of Michigan team, was proud to witness the high level of competition and creativity. The Garrett Innovation Award was presented to the University of Washington for their groundbreaking improvements in drivetrain architecture and packaging – an achievement that stood out among a field of exceptional entries.
FS Czech 2025: A European Showcase of Engineering Talent
From August 4-9, the Polygon Most circuit in the Czech Republic hosted FS Czech 2025, one of Europe’s most dynamic Formula Student events. With over 70 international teams competing across combustion (CV), electric (EV), and driverless (DV) categories, the event was a vibrant celebration of technical skill and teamwork.
Garrett’s presence was felt not only through sponsorship but also through its annual contribution of six expert judges, helping evaluate teams across technical scrutineering, static presentations, and dynamic racing.
The Garrett Innovation Award at FS Czech was awarded to Politecnico di Milano for their innovative pouch battery pack design and custom motor cooling system- an impressive feat of engineering that captured the spirit of the competition.
