Garrett Showcases Electrification and Turbocharging Innovations at the Vienna Motor Symposium

Garrett presents its differentiated E‑Powertrain Portfolio and Turbocharging Technologies
At the 2026 Vienna Motor Symposium, Garrett Motion is showing its expanding portfolio of zero emission and emission reduction technologies, reinforcing its role in advancing efficient, scalable solutions for passenger and commercial vehicles.
Garrett is presenting a range of integrated electric propulsion solutions, including a 3-in-1 E-Axle for passenger vehicles, a 2-in-1 E-Powertrain for commercial vehicles, and an E-Beam electric axle developed in collaboration with HanDe, the leading commercial vehicle axle manufacturer in China. These exhibits demonstrate Garrett’s system-level approach to electrification, integrating electric motors, power electronics and mechanical architectures to support diverse vehicle platforms and duty cycles.
“Garrett is leveraging decades of expertise in high-speed turbo compressors to accelerate innovation well beyond traditional boosting applications,” said Craig Balis, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Garrett Motion. “Our deep competencies in oil free foil bearings, high-speed electric motors, high-speed power electronics and advanced control software allow us to rapidly expand into new electrified domains while continuing to advance turbocharger performance. Mastering these technologies enables differentiated solutions that deliver efficiency, durability and scalability for our customers.”
Alongside its electrified drive technologies, Garrett is also showcasing its latest generation of turbochargers and electric compressors, which have recently been launched into series production with several original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). These solutions address increasingly stringent requirements for emissions and efficiency and play a critical role in hybrid and advanced internal combustion engine platforms, where electrification and boosting technologies are increasingly combined.
Garrett’s technical contribution to the symposium extends beyond product displays. Abdelhamid Bouaita, Vice President of Engineering for Zero Emissions Technologies at Garrett Motion, will present a technical paper titled ‘Leveraging high-speed electric motor technology for differentiated commercial vehicle beam axles.’ This presentation focuses on how Garrett’s high-speed motor and power electronics technologies enable compact and efficient E-Beam axle architectures that can help reduce system costs, weight and energy losses. Ultimately, this will contribute to a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) for electric commercial vehicles.
Through global collaborations such as its partnership with HanDe, and by addressing both passenger and commercial vehicle applications, Garrett demonstrates its strategy of combining proven turbocharging expertise with advanced electrification technologies. This approach enables automakers and commercial vehicle manufacturers to navigate the evolving powertrain landscape while meeting regional regulatory, operational and customer requirements.
