Garrett’s Presov, Slovakia Facility Becomes Official University Partner to Educate Future Engineers

Presov Plant Director Marian Vazur and university dean Jozef Zivcak

Garrett’s manufacturing facility in Presov, Slovakia took another step ahead in supporting young technical talents by signing an official cooperation contract with the country’s prestigious Technical University of Kosice. The signing ceremony was held on Sept. 3 when Marian Vazur, Presov Plant Director, hosted university dean Jozef Zivcak and his vice-deans in the plant.

“Our goal at Garrett is to inspire the next generation of technology inventors, innovators and leaders who can make a difference in their local communities and the world at large,” explained Marian Vazur. “To further support this goal, students will work on their diploma thesis together with assigned Garrett mentors, further discovering topics related to company’s products and manufacturing processes, and developing practice needed for both their graduation and future career.”

Visitors were taken on a brief tour of Presov’s manufacturing shopfloor and learned more about site’s manufacturing processes and technology capabilities. After that, local Garrett leaders and university representatives engaged in a discussion on particular projects, many of them related to Industry 4.0, automation and robotization, which will allow students to spend time with Garrett employees in several departments including Production, Quality and Maintenance, and gain valuable knowledge and expertise. Common activities will also help Garrett technical staff to further develop skills and professionally grow, as they will educate future technicians and engineers.

Technical University of Kosice serves a wide range of educational, scientific and research needs not only in the East-Slovak region, but throughout Slovakia and Central Europe.

“We are happy to broaden technical skills of this university’s soon-to-graduate students by introducing them to Garrett in-person and demonstrating our manufacturing capabilities,” concluded Marian Vazur.

The partnership with the university continues Garrett’s dedication to STEM-related programs (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and falls in-line with the company’s WeCare4 community outreach initiative.
