Since joining Garrett as a manufacturing engineer in 2016, Mandy Zhang’s skills development across multiple roles has led to a senior position in the company’s Integrated Supply Chain organization. As Autonomous Production Unit (APU) manager, Mandy plays a key role in driving production and quality goals while minimising waste.

Why did you decide to join Garrett? 

“As a professional with a passion for engineering and manufacturing, I was excited by the opportunity to join such a strong automotive brand at Wuhan (China) plant,” says Mandy. “I knew from my first interview that this was a place where there would not only be opportunities for progression but that there would be a supportive culture to help me fulfil my potential.”

And so it proved to be the case, with Mandy following a development path that transitioned from a manufacturing engineer to process quality engineer and then quality system engineer. This gave her a holistic view of the manufacturing process and quality control, which led to her appointment as APU Manager.

Why are you suited to your current role?  

“I consider myself to be a strong systems thinker which, when allied to good communication skills, my teamworking ability and the support of colleagues, makes me well qualified to contribute to Garrett’s integrated supply chain capability. I like to think I bring engineering know-how, problem solving and process optimization to my current role.

“I also love the challenge that being part of a technology-driven sector brings every day – and the fact that our culture means that support is always enthusiastically given should I need information or advice. This means that as a team we are constantly refreshing our knowledge through the expertise and experiences of our colleagues.”

What would you say to people considering a career with Garrett?
