Garrett Invests in STEM Education in Romania, Launching 2 New Projects
- Garrett Motion continues to invest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education in Romania launching two new interactive student projects in the academic year 2021/2022.
- Dozens of Garrett team members will mentor hundreds of students in their journey toward a successful STEM career through a series of workshops and open classes
Garrett Motion’s commitment to a culture of innovation is a core element of the company’s DNA, and Garrett educational partnerships in Romania are just as dedicated to inspiring the next generation of thinkers. After educating close to 300 university students in STEM programs during the 2020-2021 academic year, the Garrett mentors in Bucharest are currently preparing new experiences for the next wave of innovators.
Two new projects are just around the corner.
Firstly, Garrett and the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE) have taken the first steps into a partnership dedicated to sustainable education, recently inaugurating a new university amphitheater. Garrett has supported the ASE Foundation to renovate one of the classroom amphitheaters through a sponsorship of $50,000. When the university can operate at full capacity, the amphitheater will support up to 10,000 students throughout each academic year.
The partnership between the two organizations also enables a better connection between the academic and business environment by organizing open courses held by Garrett experts. Garrett open courses will be focused on current business best practices, tools and processes and will be organized throughout the 2021-2022 academic year. The full details of the program will be announced soon.
Depending on the pandemic situation, the Garrett open classes will take place either online or in the Garrett-branded amphitheater.
“We are proud to contribute to the development of a new generation of young talented professionals. Education is vital for the sustainable development of a society, and this is part of our commitment in our WeCare4 program, Garrett’s sustainability approach,” added Constanta Nazarcu, Managing Director of Garrett Motion in Romania. “Thus, the creation of an optimal framework for academic teaching and an improved connection between the academic and the business environment are priorities.”
The company’s commitment to supporting STEM education in Romania doesn’t stop there. Following the successful 2020-2021 edition of the student program “The next generation of innovators”, when 10 Garrett mentors in Engineering, IT, Finance, and Mathematics have taught and mentored more than 200 students from various universities in Bucharest, the company has decided to continue this program and to expand it with a new field of study: software development.
“The next generation of innovators” is a program tailored for Garrett by Leaders Foundation, an NGO that has a long academic tradition in Romania. For the new edition, which will start end of October, the two partners have decided to take the workshops even closer to the student needs and leave as much space as possible for questions, games and interaction with the mentors.
For the two new sessions, the two organizations will prepare 16 workshops, 2 mentoring sessions and plenty of insights, technology trends and good advice.
“It is a unique experience, not just because a workshop was held, and a certain number of speakers presented, but due to the exchange of ideas, emotions and life perspectives,” said Larisa Ion, a former student in the program. “The discussions and what you can take from them represent a unique experience. Everything was natural, sincere, full of inspiration and cannot be reproduced.”
