Real-World Dyno Validation

The GXR42-71 was evaluated by Metal Horse Brasil in a DTA-Light specification application using a VW 2.0 8V water-cooled engine at an altitude of 792 meters | 2600 ft above sea level. The tested Garrett turbocharger was configured with a V-Band turbine housing in A/R 1.28.

In back-to-back testing, the Garrett GXR42-71 produced
907 WHP | 676 kW at 8367 RPM and
580 lb-ft | 80 kg-m of torque at 8027 RPM at
55 PSI 3.8 bar of boost pressure. (2 PSI | .1 Bar lower boost pressure)

Under the same test conditions, the comparison turbo (Precision Next Gen R 7175) produced
903 WHP | 673 kW at 8191 RPM and
585 lb-ft | 81 kg-m of torque at 7896 RPM at
57 PSI | 3.9 bar of boost pressure.

These results demonstrate that the GXR42-71 was capable of delivering slightly higher peak wheel horsepower while operating at slightly lower boost pressure in this specific application. Actual results will vary depending on vehicle configuration, calibration strategy, environmental conditions, and supporting components.

Use the Garrett Dealer Locator to find an authorized retailer or distributor. Purchasing through an authorized source ensures product authenticity, technical support, and warranty coverage.

Will I need to retune my engine when installing a G-XRace turbocharger?

Yes. Performance results are highly dependent on vehicle configuration and ECU calibration. The increased airflow capability of the G-XRace compressor requires proper tuning to optimize performance, drivability, and durability.

What horsepower can the G-XRace 42-71 support in real-world applications?

The G-XRace is capable of supporting up to 1300 horsepower based on compressor flow testing. Actual results will vary depending on engine displacement, fuel type, boost pressure, supporting modifications, and calibration strategy.

How does G-XRace differ from the G-Series turbochargers?

G-XRace turbochargers feature updated compressor aerodynamics that provide increased airflow and efficiency compared G-Series. These improvements expand the usable operating range and support higher horsepower and pressure ratio potential, where engine demand allows. The turbine wheel and turbine housings are the same and interchangeable between the two series.

Why is turbo speed monitoring recommended for high-performance applications?

Monitoring turbocharger shaft speed helps prevent overspeed conditions that can affect long-term durability. G-XRace turbochargers feature a fully machined speed sensor port, allowing users to monitor operating conditions, especially at higher performance levels.
