21 Consecutive Years and Counting: Garrett Tech Boosts 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans Victors

While this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans looked a little different with no fans in attendance due to COVID-19 precautions, one thing remained consistent – Garrett’s world-class turbocharger technology boosted the winning team to victory for the 21st year in a row.

Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Garrett-boosted #8 TS050 Hybrid racecar piloted by Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Kazuki Nakajima passed the checkered flag for a first-place finish at Le Mans 2020, marking the third straight year of the team’s dominance at the world’s most famous endurance race. Coming in third place was Toyota Gazoo Racing’s #7 car, also turbocharged by Garrett, driven by Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López.

The #7 and #8 cars are powered by Toyota’s 2.4L gas twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain, capable of more than 1,000 horsepower, featuring ultra-lightweight Garrett twin turbos with advanced ball-bearing technology, boosting engine performance and the acceleration needed to secure the team’s three-peat victory. The turbo system was designed from the ground-up to withstand the unique operating environment created by such a grueling 24-hour race.
