Jan Matulik is passionate about innovation in products and processes – and he found the perfect environment for what drives him when he joined Garrett in 2014. Ten years on, and his excitement for new ideas and better ways of working is stronger than ever.

As Program Management Director, based in Brno, Czech Republic, he plays an  important role in developing the Garrett technologies that are helping automakers around the world transition to low and zero carbon solutions. It’s an extremely exciting time to be part of this industry – and Jan sees a direct correlation between Garrett’s innovation leadership and the company’s supportive culture of collaboration.

What motivated you to join Garrett?

It was Garrett’s innovative approach to product development and its commitment to process excellence that first attracted Jan to join the company as Program Manager for Commercial Vehicles.

“I’m a dedicated professional with a passion for technology and leadership,” says Jan. “So, when the opportunity arose to join Garrett, I could see lots of opportunities to make a difference because of the ethos of the business.

“I thrive on challenges and enjoy bringing teams together to achieve common goals. Over the last 10 years, my professional development has been a journey of evolving expertise, leadership skills, and strategic thinking, all of which have been fostered by the company’s supportive environment.

“Here, I’ve found a culture that values continuous learning and growth.”

What does a typical day look like? 

As Program Management Director, Jan is responsible globally for Program Management teams supporting programs for Commercial Vehicles. He’s proud to be part of a company at the forefront of developing new technologies shaping an automotive ecosystem that will define the future of transportation.

“This is such an exciting and rewarding time to be part of the auto industry,” he says. “I get to drive innovation in our products and our processes every single day. My work is dynamic and varied, but typically involves strategic planning sessions, cross-functional team meetings, and deep-dive project reviews. What I enjoy the most is the collaborative spirit that runs through every task.”

For example, recently launching new product line of “extra large” Turbos, which will enable Garrett to enter new markets outside of the automotive industry and get involved with new customers in those markets. Its exciting journey to step beyond our traditional segment which opens completely different business prospectives, challenges as well opportunities.

How would you describe Garrett to prospective employees? 

“Well, if Garrett were a person, I’d describe it as innovative, dynamic, collaborative, forward-thinking, and resilient.

“But more to the point, I’d say that this is a place where your ideas are valued, your growth is invested in, and your contributions can make a real difference. You just need to bring to your talent and your passion.”
