Garrett Motion Teams Up with Feras Qartoumy for World Time Attack 2024
Feras Qartoumy, competing in the Pro-Am class at World Time Attack 2024, showcased incredible resilience in the face of major challenges. Despite an engine rebuild and tough track conditions, Qartoumy secured an impressive second-place finish in the Pro-Am class with a lap time of 1:25.4580, and took third place overall.
Overcoming Setbacks
Reflecting on the challenges of the first day, Qartoumy shared, “We’ve had quite an adventure these past couple of days. We had to rebuild the engine overnight, which kind of sucked, but hey, it’s racing—you do what you got to do.” The rebuild was necessary after discovering bronze in the oil, a sign of engine trouble. Thanks to his crew chiefs, Jaden and Paul, they were able to pull the motor and put everything back together at Baxter’s MTQ’s workshop in just 24 hours.
“It was a race against time,” Qartoumy added. “But by Thursday afternoon, the car was back on the trailer and heading to the track.” Unfortunately, the first session didn’t go as planned due to a forgotten detail—the traction control wasn’t turned on. This led to a rough start, with Qartoumy battling dust in the cabin and oversteer on a tricky track. “Yeah, that wasn’t the best,” he admitted with a smile. “But overall, it was a good day. The car’s in good shape, and we’ve got a solid plan for tomorrow.”
Focus on Self-Improvement
One of the key factors that sets Qartoumy apart is his focus on improving his own driving, rather than making constant changes to the car’s setup. With years of experience, he is always analyzing data to tweak his performance. “I always think I’m the biggest factor in it all,” Qartoumy explained. “I never make changes to the car all day. I didn’t change shock settings, tire pressure, or sway bars. I believe I can work on myself better than trying to chase setup changes.”
A Strong Partnership with Garrett Motion
Qartoumy’s success is also built on his long-standing relationship with Garrett Motion. His journey with turbocharging began when he won Global Time Attack’s Super Lap Battle at Circuit of the Americas. “The winner got a free Garrett turbo,” he recalled. “At the time, my car was naturally aspirated, so I reached out to Garrett and asked, ‘Hey, can I get two?’ Ever since then, I’ve had a great relationship with them. Now, I’ve got a warehouse full of turbos.”
For World Time Attack 2024, Qartoumy relied on Garrett’s G-Series G35-900 turbos. He’s already planning to upgrade to bigger units next year. The support from Garrett, along with help from the MTQ team, has enabled Qartoumy to focus entirely on his racing, trusting in the top-tier performance of his twin-turbo Corvette.
Looking Forward
Though Qartoumy’s journey at World Time Attack 2024 was filled with challenges, his perseverance, backed by Garrett’s cutting-edge technology and the tireless support of the Baxter’s MTQ crew, earned him a place on the podium. As the event wrapped up, Qartoumy was already looking ahead, making plans for the next stage of his racing career with his trusted partners.
“It’s been an incredible experience,” Qartoumy said. “There’s always something to learn in racing, and I’m just grateful for the opportunity to keep pushing the limits.”
