Building a car that can go 9 seconds in 1/4 mile is not an easy task. You can either buy one or build one right? If you are buying one you would need a pretty big bank account to purchase something like a McLaren P1, or a Ferrari LaFerrari, or maybe a Bugatti Chiron. On the other hand if you owned one of those you probably wouldn’t be racing it in the 1/4 mile. It sounds like to only logical option is to build a car that is up for the task. You need a stout engine and transmission, proper gearing and axles, and a Garrett turbo or two! Pair that with a proper tune and you are well on your way. Adam LZ shows us just how simple it was for him to turn a 2020 Supra into a 9 second drag race machine.
The 2020 Toyota Supra features a 3.0L inline 6 cylinder engine with 335 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. An 8 speed transmission delivers the power to the rear wheels of this 3,400 LB car. One thing is clear that this car needs more power so Adam LZ upgrades the turbo on his 2020 Toyota Supra with a Boostlogic turbo kit and the new Garrett G30-770 turbocharger! The Supra Hits The Dyno
Tuning is just as important as finding the best turbo for your setup. Adam LZ selected the Garrett G30-770 turbo for it’s horsepower range and small size to provide big power and amazing boost response for the Supra’s 3.0L engine. After the dyno session with RK Tuned, the 2020 Supra made 646 horsepower and 582 lb-ft of torque at 6700 RPM on 30 PSI of boost. Impressive nonetheless considering with drivetrain loss (646 x 1.1) the car is actually making 710 horsepower to the crank, which is close to the max power of the turbo.
Adam LZ Has A 9 Second Daily Driver
After the tuning is done Adam heads to Orlando Speedworld for a private test session and makes his first 9 second 1/4 mile pass with the 2020 Supra.
