AMSTERDAM, June 14, 2017 — Garrett aftermarket brand are showcasing its portfolio of remanufactured turbochargers for the European independent aftermarket at the annual ReMaTec Trade Show in Amsterdam. Garrett invites industry professionals to stop by its stand during the show to learn more about how its remanufactured turbo range helps installers remain in compliance with European Union regulations.
Garrett is qualified to produce remanufactured turbos having developed the original equipment specifications for numerous applications in cooperation with global automotive manufacturers. Garrett Original Reman turbos have been meticulously restored, recalibrated and rebalanced, for the independent aftermarket ensuring seamless integration with vehicle engines.
The need to use a quality replacement part is even more important today as regulatory agencies throughout Europe continue to confirm performance standards for replacement turbochargers in connection with fuel economy and emissions targets. Agencies from Germany, Spain, Italy and Switzerland have all made statements including turbochargers among those automotive components being type-approval relevant.

Each Garrett Original Reman turbo is re-assembled to the same specifications as original new parts and inspected against original production drawings. As a starting point, Garrett remanufactured turbos receive several new original components, such as actuators, compressor wheels, bearing systems, seals, O-rings, piston ring seals, bolts and clamps. As an additional customer benefit, any part which has been upgraded since its original introduction will be replaced with the newer part in a remanufactured turbo.
“We understand the need for a reliable remanufactured turbo replacement with an attractive price point for owners of vehicles that are typically around 7-years-old or older,” said Fraysse. “Europe has an aging car parc and our distributors need to provide choice to the late-model car owner who needs a repair, but doesn’t need or want to pay for a completely new part.”
The complexity of Garrett turbos involves rotational speeds in excess of 250,000 rotations per minute. These highly precise boosting technologies require component tolerances that can be as small as 4 microns – the same as a particle of dust and 17 times smaller than a human hair.
“Modern turbos are extraordinarily sophisticated and must perform under extreme conditions, and we have seen that reliable replacements are much more likely when manufactured to the original specifications,” said Fraysse. “While it may be tempting for consumers to select cheaper remanufactured components, the implications to vehicle performance and fuel consumption may be significant and can lead to costly vehicle repairs. In this case, you should not expect that performance and durability are scaled to cost.”
