Listen to Craig Balis, Garrett Motion Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Office, discuss the Garrett E-Turbo technology and the future of Hybrid vehicles at IAA 2019.
Daniel Deiro Senior Vice President Global Customer Management, presenting at Frankfurt Motorshow innovations for customers, media and industry professionals.
Garrett is pioneering E-Turbo technology to deliver superior performance, fuel economy and emissions, by integrating state-of-the-art, ultra highspeed electric motors and power electronics into it’s turbocharger product families.
Garrett’s Two Stage compressor enables automakers to optimize electric powertrain potential by boosting hydrogen fuel cell stacks to higher pressures and flows within a downsized package that fits inside regular vehicles. Advanced bearing and electrical system designs increase performance, reduce size, weight, and noise, and help make the vision of zero emissions vehicles a reality
We help original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and fleet operators safeguard vehicle integrity at all times by using a combination of an on-board network Intrusion Detection System (IDS), Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (IDPS) and our expertise in machine learning, physics-based modeling and fault modeling.
Our solution can report anomalies detected on-board to the Security Operation Center(SOC) off-board, which collects, aggregates and analyzes information from the fleet and transforms it into actionable outputs to effectively troubleshoot the problems and prevent them from repeating.
Moreover, the company’s unique expertise in advanced controls and automotive engineering, resulting from decades of OEM engagement, is driving its controls solutions –that can contribute to physical automotive systems working in a safer and more optimal way.
Garrett has unveiled new boost control architecture that can significantly enhance turbo performance and health and help unlock optimized energy management. This latest innovation redefines conventional ECU and mechanical turbo interaction by creating a new control subsystem for the Electric Turbo.
1. Reduce no trouble found and warranty costs thanks to accuracy of diagnostic, defect or cyber attacks 2. Predict immobilizing failures and avoid downtime costs while benefiting to end customer satisfaction 3. Prevent attacks to occur 4. Allow to launch vehicle on time, fully validated and tested 5. Ensure compliance with emissions and cyber regulations. 6. Optimize powertrain performance and reduce BOM (bill of materials) cost
The 3rd Generation Twin Scroll turbo developed in the context of WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure) and RDE (Real Driving Emissions) emissions regulations features optimized aerodynamics and bearing system to compensate for the ban of engine scavenging and for the introduction of Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF).
GTD Variable Nozzle Technology offers new aerodynamics and bearing system for better Low End Torque, Transient, higher EGR capability and reliability, for applications with exhaust gas temperature up to 860 Celsius.
The next generation of Two Stage architecture with enhanced thermal management technology offers augmented performance and helps in NOx emissions reduction.
The applications are responding to key needs such as increased performance with emissions reduction on passenger cars mid-size diesel engine range.
Suitable for all diesel engines
Benefits: • Reduced thermal losses – higher catalyst inlet temperatures which in turn lead to faster catalyst light-off time • Up to 50% weight reduction for the turbine housing (2kg) • Low Nickel content material, reducing the risk in of nickel inflation • Optimisation of precious metal loading of the catalyst system
