As a committed team player, Kim, Yong Ho (Y.H) feels a connection to his colleagues that accentuates the culture of ‘togetherness’ embodied within the Garrett Motion ethos. His experiences at the company’s Ansan, South Korea plant have been many and varied, but what hasn’t changed is the sense of empowerment and shared endeavour that supports his career aspirations…and inspires everyone to fulfil their potential.

What is your current role at Garrett?

Kim, Yong Ho (Y.H) joined Garrett in 2003, working in a variety of roles in Regional Supply Chain and as Process Excellence Senior Manager in the Global Supply Chain team prior to being appointed Senior Plant Manager, Integrated Supply Chain.

“These positions gave me really valuable opportunities to experience different cultures, to extend my people management and process skills, and to interact with customers,” he says. “These have all been important steps in developing and growing my career path.”

What do you like most about your job?

“What I love about my work is the team culture that I share with my enthusiastic colleagues. We start every day with a smile on our faces, with a constructive attitude and a focus on priorities. Of course, sometimes we can have a tough day, but we always re-set the next day in good spirits because we are a close-knit team. We think strategically together, sharing ideas for process improvements and efficiencies.”

How have you developed profesionally? 

“Continuous professional development is in Garrett’s DNA, and I have been given lots of opportunities to grow as a result of multiple role changes and the thoughtful support from the leadership team. I have earned two professional certifications – a Six Sigma Black Belt and an accreditation as a Certified Professional in Supply Management.

“The company is always looking for ways to develop each employee, with everyone working towards a minimum of two active development goals.”

What are three things you would say to anyone considering joining Garrett? 

“For me, the top three things I would share are firstly that Garrett employees are very supportive and do not hesitate to share their knowledge; that we create a very positive work environment based on respect and a ‘no blame’ work ethic; and that there is great process management and lots of investment in the tools we need to achieve our goals.”

How would you describe yourself outside work?

“I’m a very positive person who really enjoys the company of other people, whether that’s family, friends, or colleagues. More recently, I’ve found a lot of joy in spending time walking in the open air, taking in beautiful views – it’s great for the mind and body.”

“The descriptions that stand out for me when I think of Garrett are ‘professional’, ‘friendly’, ‘fair’, ‘effective’ and ‘knowledge leader’.
